Popeska
Bio
From his (recent) beginnings as a dorm-room producer at Georgia Tech, uploading tracks to Soundcloud as a hobby, to being the first signing to Wolfgang Gartner’s Kindergarten Records, Ralf Popescu never imagined that electronic music would be his career. Quickly attracting listeners on a daily basis, Popeska’s steady output of progressive and sonically addicting material has set the stage for the release of his debut EP, entitled Karmameter, along with well-regarded remixes for Bloody Beetroots & Street Lurkin, as well as his earned inclusion on 2012’s “Love & War” tour featuring Wolfgang Gartner and Pierce Fulton.
Karmameter has undoubtedly become a welcome addition to every electronic music aficionado’s collection. It’s easily brought in fans from various other genres, as Ralf draws inspiration from sources such as folk, classical and jazz to make his brand stand out in a cutthroat era of competition where anyone with a computer can try to pass themselves off as a producer.
The four tracks that comprise Karmameter showcase the diversity of Popeska’s craft. Songs like “Liar” ft. Hannah Juliano and “Atlantis” featuring Anna Yvette feature soaring pop vocals over melodic synth lines while the title track boasts heart-stopping bass and jagged rhythms. There are hints of Popeska’s allegiance to the dance greats, especially on the Wolfgang Gartner edit of “Now or Never”, but ultimately, Karmameter reveals the young producer paving his own way. If the sincerity of his art and exponentially growing buzz is any indicator, Popeska is a name to watch out for. This young producer is only getting started.
